JOURNALING: Music played a large role in Maurice Sendak’s life and his artwork.  Mozart was one of his primary influences, calling him “…a hovering spirit”. He listened exclusively to Mozart while producing Outside Over There, calling the book in some ways a response to Mozart. When Sendak began his “second career” as an opera designer, it was natural that his first job would be designing the sets and costumes for The Magic Flute,  Mozart’s seminal work.  He would go on to design over a dozen more works for the stage including two more Mozart operas, Idomeneo and The Goose of Cairo.  ON PHOTOS:Mozart and Bimperl, his dog - 2001 ;    Poster The Magic Flute -  1978   3/1/23
