Finding our way to Versailles from Paris on the train was supposed to be very easy, but my high school French failed me completely at the station (in my defense, I am tone deaf which affects language as well as music). Unable to make myself understood, a couple that were there saved us. He spoke English and whatever his native language was (I didn’t recognize it) while she spoke French and the same native language. She found out the schedule and costs in French, told him in their language so he could translate it into English - and we happily bought our tickets, found our stop and the return time. It’s one of my fond memories of this weekend trip to Paris and Versailles.
