Journaling: Secret History of Hope
March 25, 1891, a young female blue whale was migrating up the east coast of Ireland when she was caught by low tide and then was stranded on a sandbar. The whale was not fully grown, measuring in at 15.2 meter leviathan, had been grounded so close to shore. After two miserable days, she was auctioned off. The Natural History Museum purchased the skeleton for $250. After spending decades in the gallery, the skeleton was moved to the Hintze Hall to greet visitors as they entered the museum. Since then, she was given the name of Hope.
