Journaling:  Caydee Denney and John Coughlin, considered one of the top two teams at the 2014 Nationals going into the Championship Pairs competition,

could only manage a fourth place in the short program skating to “Tosca”. I’ve always liked Caydee Denney because she lives in Central Florida so I was rooting for them to do better in the free skate.

The pair, who have been skating together only since 2011, redeemed themselves in the free skate to “Phantom of the Opera”. They set a record, earning the best free skate score ever put up at the national championship.

However, it was not quite enough earning them the bronze medal, just .29 points behind the second place team.  This ended their dream of competing at the Olympics but they were assigned to represent the U.S. in the World’s in Japan in March. Unfortunately, an injury to Denney resulted in them having to withdraw.

"We fought as hard as we could," Caydee told reporters. "Having that feeling that we both had at the end of that program was the best feeling in the world, when you know that you gave it everything that you could….”
