journaling:

For years, I had heard about a Japanese Gardens located in our Minnesota neighborhood. I thought it was some sort of hoax. Ray assured me it was real, but I could never get him to take me to it. So when the kids came up this year, I suggested we find it. Much to my delight, we found it located just behind our local community college. I had passed it 1,000 times and didn’t even know it. Surrounded by trees and wetlands, it arises as a beautiful, little gem as you walk up the path. We made it a short visit, but I could see myself returning for some quiet time.

The plaque reads:

We the Japanese American Veterans of the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Service Language School, dedicate this Bentendo and Bridge to the people of the Twin Cities and all of Minnesota for the kind treatment we received while we were stationed here during W.W. 11, 1942-1946
