Here is my journaling:
"In the space of 4 years, our family went through the greatest test of our faith and mettle: My husband, our sole support, was unemployed for nearly 3.5 years. The feelings and emotions that go through the mind and heart are so crazy when your very security is in question. One of the most heartbreaking things one can hear is your little 8 year old daughter saying with tears in her eyes, “Mommy, are we going to have to live under a bridge and eat garbage??”.
So many feelings - failure, fear, faith, support, disbelief...It’s so hard to imagine. All the emergency shelter homes were filled to capacity. Just when it seemed that all options were exhausted, we got a phone call from my husband’s parents from Las Vegas with the simple words, “Son, come home.”.
We left everything we knew behind, and started what I call our “Sojourn in the Desert”. 2 more years of holding on, of persistence in applying for jobs, and finally, food stamps so that we could eat. We KNEW God had a plan, we just didn’t understand what it was. I watched my husband handle with as much grace as he could, the mind numbing feelings of not being able to provide for his family, and I just kept supporting him, loving him, and doing whatever I had to do to get us through to the next day.
Finally, in December of 2014, he got a call out of the blue from someone who saw his resumé, and he went in for an interview right away. They hired him immediately and this is the job he’s waited for all his life - it incorporates everything he’s good at.
In February of 2015, we were able to purchase our very own new house, and every night we sleep under the roof that our faithfulness to God and our persistence to keep the faith provided. We know how blessed we are, and looking back, I know it was ONLY the Grace of God and the prayers of family and friends lifting us up and enabling us to keep strong and move forward. "
